Step Up: Our Reach
Today we are taking the final step in this Step Up Initiative.
The First is Step Up Our Opportunity by bringing our presentation up to excellence. We understand while God looks on the inside, we know people look on the outside.
The Second is Step Up Our Generosity. It was Because People Matter that we took a responsible amount of debt on and its Because People Matter we will reduce it to free up resources.
The Third is Step Up Our Impact. We understand that expanding staff is empowering volunteers and both are partnership with God that impact not only those that serve but those who receive their service.
Today we take the final step of this Initiative. We Step Up Our Reach.
Illustrate: I want everyone to Reach your hands as high as possible to the ceiling.
Step Up our Reach: Step Up our Reach: If: Deuteronomy 32:30 (NLT) How could one person chase a thousand of them, and two people put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up?
Then how far can we reach as a community who has placed our time, talent and treasure into a unified vision? We can Reach a world! We are Going Global! But God is saying REACH for more and I’ll give it to you. Psalm 2:8 (NLT) Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
Mission Stories- First time at Pastor Mutatu’s
We must go Make Disciples and Release Ministers to all the nations.
Sending More is Reaching More- Not only do we want to expand our reach in doing more, we want to expand our reach by sending more. We want more people of The Tabernacle to go and experience the life change of changing lives.
We believe every high school senior should have an opportunity to go on a mission’s trip. At a time when decisions concerning the future are facing our students, a mission’s trip can provide an insight and real world experience that helps them say yes to the God calling on their lives.
The world is within reach and we must go- Romans 10:13–15 (NLT) For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Giving is empowering the Going?
Giving often times has much controversy connected it. People are guarded for varying reasons:
- Past Experience
- Don’t see the value
- Some struggle with its biblical basis.
- Most don’t see how they can base upon their own circumstances.
For us here at The Tab- we have determined to be generous Because People Matter. We don’t give because we have to- we give because we want to. We don’t give because of biblical commandment- we give because we want to REACH the world with the gospel of love. We understand we cannot only love with a message but with a deed- 1 John 3:18–19 (NLT) Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 19 Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.
We must Step Up and Reach Out.
- We must have a heart to give- 2 Corinthians 9:5 (NLT) So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.
Joy- 2 Corinthians 8:1–5 (NLT) Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. 3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
Excel in Giving- 2 Corinthians 8:6–7 (NLT) So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.
How big is your corner- Leviticus 19:9–10 (NLT) “When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. 10 It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.
- We understand God provides money- 2 Corinthians 9:10–11 (NLT) For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
Genesis 22:8 (NLT) “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.
Philippians 4:15–19 (NLT) As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. 16 Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. 17 I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness. 18 At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God. 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
- We change lives through meeting needs- 2 Corinthians 9:12 (NLT) So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.
1 Kings 17:8–9 (NLT) Then the Lord said to Elijah, 9 “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”
Connecting to the World- 2 Corinthians 9:13–15 (NLT) As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. 14 And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. 15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!
The fear is that your unwillingness to let go can keep you on the current level and not allow you to step up to be the light of the world.
2 Corinthians 8:11–12 (NLT) Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.
We are AS ONE in this- 2 Corinthians 8:20–21 (NLT) We are traveling together to guard against any criticism for the way we are handling this generous gift. 21 We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honorable.
