Step Up: Living the Blessed Life
Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV) But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
3 John 2 (KJV) Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Your personal calling in Christ and our corporate calling together requires the whole gospel being active among us. We all face faith challenges in many areas of our lives.
Stepping Up and Living the Blessed life is a challenge we face. We are committed to taking four steps this month and Stepping Up with a Life Change Commitment on February 25th.
We are on a journey to Living the Blessed Life- We took the first step last week. Where we identified what tithing is really all about.
Tithing is a Test- Malachi 3:10 (KJV) Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be meat in mine house, And prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, If I will not open you the windows of heaven, And pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Tithing is a Testimony– Exodus 13:14–15 (KJV) And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the Lord brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the Lord slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.
There is a spiritual law that was operational from the very beginning of creation. Jack Taylor calls it The Law of Mutual Beneficence. He describes it this way-
“In the beginning there was plenty of everything and the earth seemed to have one theme- GIVE, GIVE, GIVE! The sun gave! The moon gave! The stars gave! The earth gave! The trees gave! The plants gave! The animals gave! Man gave!”
The cycle would continue until sin and death began to reign- Romans 5:17 (KJV) For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
“Little of the spiritual realm makes sense to our senses. God created within the context of the whole universe a giving disposition. Living things give and receive, and in this Blessed life cycle life is perpetuated”. I call this “the law of reciprocity!”
The Law of Reciprocity- Luke 6:38 (NLT) Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
The Second Step in Biblical Prosperity is Offerings– Malachi 3:8–9 (KJV) Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, Even this whole nation.
Robbing God of What? His desire to bless you!
Giving Offerings Makes Room- Proverbs 18:16 (KJV) A man’s gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men.
Widows and Prophets-
The Demand- 2 Kings 4:1 (KJV) Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord:……
The source has dried up. 1 Kings 17:7 (KJV) And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
Philippians 4:19 (KJV) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
The Desperation- 2 Kings 4:1 (KJV) …..and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
Two men looking out of prison bars- One saw mud the other saw stars. 2 Kings 4:2 (KJV) And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
1 Kings 17:12 (KJV) And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
The Dependence- 2 Kings 4:3-4 (KJV) Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. 4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
1 Kings 17:10 (KJV) Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
The Deliverance- 2 Kings 4:5-6 (KJV) So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. 6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
1 Kings 17:14–16 (KJV) For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
“A demand we cannot supply leads to a desperation we cannot solve, which leads to a dependence we cannot substitute, which leads to a deliverance we cannot stop!” Jack Taylor
The Blessing Multiplies- Matthew 14:17–19 (KJV) And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18 He said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
The More Blessed Place- Acts 20:35 (NLT) And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Rebuke the Devourer- Malachi 3:11 (KJV) And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, And he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; Neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
We trust God with our salvation- His word is trustworthy in our offerings too.
